Earlier this month, we took a little trip up to NYC. When my parents first came to the states, we lived in NY. I was only 1 at the time so I can't say I remember anything from our stay there. I've been to JFK airport a few times on layovers so I guess you can say I've been to NY several times, but this is the first time where I actually get to leave the confines of the airport and step foot in the city.

My girlfriend works in the hotel industry and thanks to her connections, we landed a stay at the Hotel 50 Bowery in Chinatown. Opened in the Summer of 2017, 50 Bowery is a luxury hotel combing Chinese themes with modern design and amenities. You'll find a rooftop bar on the 21st floor with standout views, and directly attached to the hotel is chef Dale Talde's Rice and Gold. If the name sounds familiar, Dale Talde has appeared on 2 seasons of Bravo's culinary series, Top Chef. Rice and Gold draws from many Asian influences and puts a new perspective on classic dishes (full review coming soon).

The staff of the 50 Bowery are delightfully pleasant and helpful. Ask for a cab and the doormen spring into action faster than Superman changing his underwear. Go outside and walk in any direction and you'll find no shortage of Asian eateries, restaurants, shops, markets, anything you can possibly think of. Turn a corner and you can easily forget you're still in the states.

The room we got was a bit tight but we just needed a place to sleep so it was more than sufficient. Mini-fridge was well stocked, almost too well stocked to the point where we had no room for our leftovers. Our view from the 10th floor offered great visibility over the city with sight lines of the Empire State and Chrysler building.

Overall a great hotel and a really pleasant stay. We were lucky to stay at a drastic discount and while the amenities and service are worth the price, I don't find much reason to spend on a hotel while traveling when that's the place I spend the least amount of time. That's just my personal preference, but if you're looking for a nice hotel in the heart of Chinatown in NY, I would highly recommend the Hotel 50 Bowery.
