Pizza is as much a part of NY as the Statue of Liberty or the Brooklyn Bridge. No trip to NY would be complete without a taste of some of the city's best and our friends from Brooklyn know just the place.

Juliana's specializes in coal-fired style pizza. It's a slight departure from your traditional NY slice but amazing nonetheless. Juliana's is located under the Brooklyn Bridge. It's a cute little building next to some poorly placed dumpsters that made the outside smell like rancid garbage. We arrived a few minutes prior to open and had some time to wander over to the pier underneath the bridge for some fantastic views.

When we got back, there was already a line but it didn't take long for us to be seated after they opened. Their menu is pretty basic, which is fine, better to do a few things well. They have some classic pizzas that you can customize and some specialty pizzas with set ingredients. We opted to design two of their Margheritas. The pizza itself comes with tomato, mozzarella, and basil. Our friends opted to add sausage and onions to theirs. I went nuts and added pepperoni, cremini mushrooms, garlic, and ricotta cheese to ours.

Both our pies came out within 25 minutes and were absolutely delicious. The size of the pie was perfect, not too big and not too small. It wasn't overly greasy and you the flavors of the toppings really shine through. Do yourself a favor and add the ricotta because that was the highlight for me.

Two pies were the perfect amount for 4 hungry adults. We capped the meal off with a slice of NY style cheesecake. I'm a huge fan of cheesecake and it's one of the few desserts I enjoy eating. I'm used to softer consistency of cheesecake but this one was much firmer and I really enjoyed it. It's simple and done right, better than the nonsense you get at the Cheesecake Factory. Juliana's is well worth the visit. Get here early, enjoy the views and get ready for some damn good pizza.
